Day 1A of the Championship Warm Up

Registration has officially closed for Day 1A of the Championship Warm Up, locking in a strong opening field of 119 entries.

The unofficial prize pool displayed on the tournament clock currently sits at $57,120, putting the event on a fast track to easily crush its $75,000 guarantee once Day 1B gets underway in just a few minutes.

At the moment, 50 players remain out of their seats and in contention. Action will continue through the end of Level 16, at which point the surviving players will finally pack up their stacks and bag their chips for Day 2.

A Three-Barrel Bully Wins the Pot

Level 9: 800 / 1,600 ante: 1,600

A heavy preflop betting war between hijack Shuixiang Lai and cutoff Junpeng Pan built a healthy 28,000 pot before the flop was even dealt.

Lai stayed on the gas pedal, firing 11,000 on the 8♠ 7♠ 5♠ flop, which Pan quickly called. When the J♦ hit the turn, Lai didn't slow down, sliding out another 18,000. Pan matched the bet once again to see the final card.

The Q♦ completed the board on the river, and Lai fired a third barrel for 30,000. This time, the pressure proved too much, Pan finally released his hand, allowing Lai to rake in the massive pot without having to show his cards.

Folded through to the button, Wai Zhie Soe opened to 3,200, only to face a massive shove from big blind Chengcai Pan. Soe wasted no time calling off his remaining 41,500.

Soe was looking good for a double-up with his dominating preflop edge, but the 8♦ 8♠ 3♥ flop proved to be an absolute disaster, instantly handing Pan trips and leaving Soe virtually drawing dead.

The 6♣ turn sealed the win for Pan, officially eliminating Soe before the meaningless 9♠ landed on the river.

Diep Chasing Another WPT Deep Run

Kyle Bao Diep, who recorded the biggest cash of his career with a $90,532 sixth-place finish in the WPT Championship at NagaWorld in 2024, is once again back in Cambodia. A familiar face whenever WPT comes to NagaWorld, Diep is already putting together another strong run.

His latest major score came at GOP Olympians also here at NagaWorld, where he collected $18,476, pushing his total live tournament earnings past $620,000.

Diep has already doubled his starting stack today and will now look to build from there, with another deep run, and perhaps his second WPT trophy, firmly in sight.

Tawhidul Bhuiyan took his time before eventually making the call. Troncay turned over a strong hand, but the table had to wait for the showdown to see just how far ahead he was.

Facing a 1,000 raise and a call, Marcel Desroches called from the button. Big blind Tomoyuki Maeda then made it 5,000. The initial raiser and caller folded, but Desroches four-bet to 15,000.

Maeda announced all in, and Desroches snap-called for his remaining 25,600.

Choong led for 4,000, and both Gajria and Min called to the 6♣ turn. Choong fired again for 11,000, prompting Gajria to move his remaining 18,200 into the middle. Min folded, but Choong snap-called.

“The Only Two Cards That Beat Me”

From early position, Abhishek Goyal opened to 800 and found three callers, taking four players to the Q♠ 7♦ 6♥ flop.

Goyal continued for 1,500, with only button Hao Kai Wu and big blind Chun Heng Tan calling to see the Q♦ turn.

Goyal fired again, this time for 5,500, and Wu was the only caller.

The 7♥ river brought another bet from Goyal, who fired 12,500 after some thought. Wu then announced all in, and Goyal snap-called with his remaining stack.

Goyal was stunned when Wu tabled quads, beating his full house.

WPT Cambodia: Championship Warm Up Kicks Off Today

The first guaranteed event of the WPT Cambodia: Passport to the World Championship 2026 kicks off today with the Championship Warm Up, featuring a $75,000 guaranteed prize pool and a $550 buy-in.

For players looking to get into the festival early, Day 1A starts at 11:30 AM local time, giving everyone plenty of time to settle in and build a stack. Registration stays open until 6:00 PM.

Players start with 40,000 chips, worth 200 big blinds, with 40-minute levels. Day 1A will run for 16 levels before the remaining players bag up for Day 2.

If the first flight doesn't work out, there is still one more shot. Day 1B starts at 6:30 PM and runs until 9:50 PM, using the same 40,000-chip starting stack but with faster 20-minute levels.

The eventual champion will also receive a $3,500 entry to the 2027 WPT Cambodia Championship (taken from the prize pool), scheduled to run from January 12 to February 7, 2027.

The last edition in 2024 drew 398 entries with the same $550 buy-in, building a $193,030 prize pool. With the same buy-in back on the schedule, it will be interesting to see how this year's field compares.
