Park Gains Chip Lead in Double Elimination

Level 13: 1,000 / 2,500 ante: 2,500

Sasaki Ho of Japan commits his remaining stack of 14,000 into the pot from the +1 position and gets two callers in Oleg Mordassov of Switzerland in the HJ and Korea’s Park Sangsub in the BB.

The flop comes K 5 J as Park checks. Mordassov bets 12,000 and gets called as the side pot builds. The turn card is the 5 and suddenly the Korean goes all-in. Mordassov makes the quick call for his last 82,000.

Ho shows A 7 while the Swiss player turns over K J for top two pairs on the flop. Park flips over 5 2 for trips on the turn and the lead. The river card is the 6 to send Ho and Mordassov to the sidelines for good in Day 1A.

With the win, Park is now the Day 1A chip leader.

Son Recovers on Turn, Dents Mordassov

Level 8: 500 / 1,000 ante: 1,000
Son Changnam

Switzerland’s Oleg Mordassov opens from the +1 position for 3,000 and it folds to the D where Son Changman of Korea 3-bet shoves his last 21,600. It gets back to Mordassov who makes the call.

Son learns he is in a coin-flip for his tournament life as he tables J J against his opponent’s K Q .

The flop instantly gave the edge to the Swiss player: 3 K Q but it was immediately restored on the turn as the J gives Son a set. Needing to hit any King or Queen to reverse the impending outcome, the 7 arrives on the river to give the Korean a new lease on life and sending Mordassov’s stack to about 15 BBs in the process.
