South Korean Kwonhwan Mun Leads the Pack in Flight C of APT Manila Classic 2025 Main Event

Flight C of the PHP60,000 APT Manila Classic 2025 Main Event is officially in the books after ten intense levels of play. The flight drew 266 entries (218 unique), with 119 players securing their spot in Day 2. Kwonhwan Mun from South Korea bagged an impressive 288,200 chips, making him the current chip leader.
With Flight D ongoing and late registration open until the start of Day 2, the total number of entries—including qualifiers—has already reached 956 and is expected to climb even higher.
Joining Mun at the top are three former APT Main Event champions: Henrik Tollefsen (202,200), Mike Takayama (173,600), and Moses Saquing (157,900). Takayama made waves when he entered late into the tournament yet managed to amass a massive chip stack in just two hands. With his vast experience, he and the other champions are strong contenders to claim yet another APT Lion Trophy.

Kunal Patni, fresh off his Mystery Bounty victory over the weekend, also secured his Day 2 spot with 184,000 chips. Other notable players moving forward include John Costiniano (80,600), William Teoh (67,300), Richard Marquez (64,900), and John Matsuda (48,800).
With one final flight to go, all eyes are on Flight D to see who else will join the field on Day 2 of the Main Event.

Takayama Doubles Up

Mike Takayama opened for 2,600 from middle position and was quickly met with a three-bet to 9,000 by Kwonhwan Mun in the cutoff. Takayama made the call, and they went to the flop.
The dealer spread 3♥ 9♥ K♦ flop, and Takayama check-raised to 16,500 after Mun continued for 6,000. Not backing down, Mun responded with a three-bet to 37,000, only to be met with an all-in shove from Takayama for his tournament life. Mun snap-called, and the cards were revealed:
Mike Takayama: K♠ J♣
Kwonhwan Mun: A♦ K♣
Both players paired the board, but Mun held the better kicker. However, the J♥ turn gave Takayama two pair, flipping the advantage in his favor. Mun still had outs, but the Q♣ river didn’t bring any help.
With that, Mun’s stack was crippled to about 20 big blinds, while Takayama secured a crucial double-up.

Takayama's Straight Seals Hsu's Fate

The action was picked up with Li Hsu all-in and at risk against Mike Takayama.
Li Hsu: J♣ T♠
Mike Takayama: Q♦ J♦
Although Hsu was crushed preflop, he spiked a pair on the T♣ 9♣ 4♥ flop, momentarily taking the lead. However, Takayama had an straight draw, giving him plenty of outs to send Hsu home
The 8♣ turn completed Takayama’s straight, but it also gave Hsu a flush draw, keeping his hopes alive for a potential comeback. Unfortunately for Hsu, the 3♥ river was a blank, failing to improve his hand.
With that, Hsu was eliminated, while Takayama raked in a massive pot and continued building his stack.
