Asian Poker Tour returns to Taiwan in October with NT$ 12 million guaranteed prize pools

Early this year, Taipei City, Taiwan was treated to the first-ever Asian Poker Tour event held at the highly popular Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association aka CTP Club. The inaugural event exceeded all expectations. Guaranteed prize pools were easily smashed and over US$ 2 million in prizes were distributed.

Coming next week, the tour returns to CTP Club for another APT Taiwan 2019 festival taking place from October 9 to 20. The series promises to be richer than previous with the total guarantee increased from NT$ 10M to NT$ 12 million (~US$ 386,000). Out of the 23 events scheduled, the featured events are the tournaments to capture. Among the side games, there are seven High Rollers events to look forward to and of course other player favorites. For better gaming experience, all APT events utilize the Ante Big Blind format and the Shot Clock.

Here’s a rundown of what’s in store.

Featured / Guaranteed Events 

As always, the APT brings with them their most highly revered events, the Main Event and Championships Event. They each offer a deep structure with slow increasing blinds. The events run back to back from October 10 to 15 and October 16 to 20. Each event comes with a NT$ 6 million guarantee.

Main Event – NT$ 6,000,000 (~US$ 193,000) guaranteed

The Main Event is the first featured event lined up and it comes with a NT$ 6,000,000 (~US$ 193,000) guarantee. This is the tour’s top of the line tournament. The structure has been regarded as one of the most well designed in the region. Buy-in is NT$ 33,000 (~US$ 1,070). It runs for six days from October 10 to 15 with three starting days. Late comers will be very happy to know that registration closes one hour into Day 2.

Championships Event – NT$ 6,000,000 (~US$ 193,000) guarantee

The Championships Event is the second highlighted event of the series and it also comes with a NT$ 6,000,000 (~US$ 193,000) guarantee. It runs for five days from October 16 to 20. Though the structure is different from the Main Event, it is likewise deep. There are two starting days with registration open until the first hour of Day 2. Buy-in is NT$ 49,500 (~US$ 1,600).

This year has seen an increase in players seeking bigger pots and tighter fields. The answer to that was more High Rollers events. At APT Taiwan, there are seven of this type to enjoy with buy-ins ranging from NT$ 54,000 to NT$ 210,000 (~US$ 1,800 to ~US$ 6,800).

Super High Rollers – October 10 to 11 – NT$ 210,000 (~US$ 6,800)
High Rollers Single Day – October 11 – NT$ 54,000 (~US$ 1,800)

Other Events

In addition to the games listed above, many player favorites also fill the schedule such as Turbo events, Short Deck, Bounty, No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and bookenders the Monster Stack events. Buy-ins range from NT$ 5,500 to NT$ 16,500 (~US$ 180 to ~US$ 535).

Remaining festivals

Taiwan has been growing in mass popularity since the arrival of international tours last year. The upcoming APT Taiwan 2019 is the tour’s second visit to the country and the ninth festival of their calendar year. Due to the huge success of the APT Taiwan inaugural event in February, in addition to this second event, the tour will host its finale back in Taiwan. Prior to that the tour visits Ho Chi Minh for the third time this year.
