Wijaya’s victory also upped China’s bracelet count to five, joining fellow countrymen Jiang Chen (2005), Yue Du (2016), Wei Guo Liang (2018), and Yunpeng Zhou (2017 WSOP China). Read up on his win down below.

WSOP #38: $600 Monster Stack NLHE 6 Handed – Aaron Wijaya “fishnchip” – $171,389.04

After running a lengthy 10 hours and 41 minutes, the WSOP #38: $600 Monster Stack NLHE 6 Handed [ Asia ] concluded with China’s Aaron Wijaya “fishnchip” emerging victorious out of the 2,007 hopefuls from around the world. Wijaya eliminated four players at the final table which included top Brazilian player Joao Simao in 5th place and Toni Bosch Jordana at heads up. As the newest WSOP champion, Wijaya locked in the golden fancy and became $ 171,389.04 richer.

The WSOP #38: $600 Monster Stack NLHE 6 Handed [ Asia ] event was the first of nine events extending an Asia friendly time slot. Recapping the action just before the final table was formed, Finland’s Kasper Mellanen “GangstaPoker” surged to the chip lead by railing both India’s “inonhmeansfu” (11th) with pocket aces dominating pocket nines and short stacked Brazil’s Arosa (10th).

With identities now revealed, every player was seeking their first WSOP title. Among them was Blake Bohn “Beast2018!” who cashed five times at the USA leg of this series. Of his 26 WSOP career cashes, his deepest was in 2013 finishing 2nd at the $ 1,500 No Limit Hold’em. His hunt for the title continues having missed the mark here in 6th place. Another notable player in the final lineup was highly decorated Brazilian pro Joao Simao “naturalmente”. Simao fared better than Bohn with a 5th place finish for a 20th WSOP cash added to his achievements. For the remaining seven players, they each scored their largest known cash.

China had bracelet advantage with three nationals still in however when two of them fell early, Hui Tang “totoyou” (9th) to Mellanen and Kai Liu (8th) to Bohn, it was left to Wijaya to try to seize it. Next showdown, Toni Bosch Jordana “AnsuFati31” avoided defeat after cracking Mellanen’s pocket Aces with ten-nine of hearts that produced two tens on the board. Then Bohn earned a big pot off Mellanen to steal the chip lead.

Joining the whipping, Jingxiang Ong crippled Chun Kit Leung when Ac10c connected the ace to overtake JcJd. Leung managed to triple up on the next hand but crashed immediately after to Wijaya. This was Wijaya’s first of four heads claimed. To bring the table down to five, Mellanen earned his second victim, emptying out Bohn with pocket aces holding up this time against pocket nines. This gave Mellanen over half the chips in play at his disposal. Matching Mellanen in busts, Wijaya booted Simao for his second casualty. Wijaya AdKd outdrew 4d4c with an Ace on the flop.

Leading up to the next elimination, Mellanen suffered two hits, doubling up Jordana then Ong. Ong continued to rise, landing a second double up paid by Wijaya while Mellanen was on the down side, boosting Jordana again. Ong went on to claim another pot against Wijaya with Ac10d pairing the ace to beat KsKh and took the lead for the first time. However, Ong’s stay at the top was brief. Mellanen and Wijaya shipped a full recharge to cripple Ong. Ong’s final stand was Ace-three denied by Jordana’s Ace-ten. In turn, Jordana claimed the highly fickle chip lead. The next ten minutes saw Jordana dominating the action to rise to over half the chips in play. Wijaya railed Mellanen in 3rd place to kick off heads up with Jordana slightly ahead.

It was a tug of war for the glory with the chip lead switching back and forth multiple times. The golden merch was finally captured on a full house over full house. Preflop action, Wijaya called a raise and the flop came Ks7s8c. Check, c-bet Jordana, called. On the turn 7c, Check, c-bet Jordana, raise Wijaya, call Jordana. On the river 9h, Wijaya bet covering Jordana’s stack, Jordana risked it all. Wijaya Kh7h full house, Jordana 8h7d lower full house.
