Red Dragon Manila: 669 entries in the Main Event; Hwany Lee chip leader; Campomanes wins Platinum Pass

Red Dragon Manila Main Event gathers 669 entries, ₱13,815,070 (US$270,183) up top

The first ever Red Dragon Main Event held in the Philippines drew a total of 669 entries from its three starting flights that occurred this past Monday and Tuesday (January 6 and 7) at Okada Manila.

The large number of entries of both locals and foreigners in this ₱50M-guaranteed event resulted in a whopping ₱64,244,070 (US$1,263,104) prize pool.

The top 81 players are ensured of in-the-money spots while the event champion takes the top prize of ₱13,815,070 (US$270,183).

As of today the prestigious Red Dragon have previously held 30 Main Events since 2008. The current ongoing event is the first ever Red Dragon Series to be held in the Philippines.

Hwany Lee leads Day 2

Hwany Lee (Korea) ended his Red Dragon Main Event Day 1b conquest as chip leader with 303,500 in his stack. Although it’s also worth noting that Lee only has slight lead over fellow Korean, Jehun Hong who amassed an impressive 303,000 chip stack. Lee’s strong efforts are rewarded since he will be returning to Day 2 as overall chip leader of the tournament.

Notable players who were able to make it through Day 1b were tournament local specialist Richard “Hot Sauce” Marquez (110,500), APPT Main Event Champion Flo Campomanes (202,000) and former Red Dragon champion Alan Lau (196,000).

Luck is currently on the side of APPT Main Event Champion, Florencio Campomanes as he wins the first Platinum Pass of 2020 at the Red Dragon Series Manila. The Platinum Pass was awarded as a flip out among players making it to Day 2 of the Main Event.

One Platinum Pass is approximately worth US$30,000. It’s a package that includes a €22,500 Buy-in to PSPC 2020 event, one-week hotel accommodation for 2 in a 5-star Barcelona Hotel, Airport transfer fees, Bespoke PSPC Merchandise and €1,250 for Platinum Pass winner’s expenses during the event.

Campomanes is the 4th Filipino player who won a Platinum Pass from a major tournament series.

Anson Wong (China) takes down Red Dragon Series Manila Event #10 Turbo –NLH for ₱346,520 (US$6,825.96) after a deal made during their heads-up battle between him and the runner-up Jae Kyung Sim (South Korea). Sim was able to bag ₱297,700 (US$5,861.89) for his second place finish.

Chris Chong (Singapore) topped a field of 136 entries and conquered Red Dragon Manila Series’ Event #5: ₱50,000 DeepStack-NLH-Freezeout for a whopping top prize of ₱1,543,400 (US$30,387). Chong was able to secure the lion share of the ₱5,936,400 (US$116,880) prize pool of the event. Stephen Nathan (United Kingdom) came in as runner up and took home ₱1,039,000 for his second place finish.
