Vincent Chauve wins the Main Event!
it’s all over! After five days of competitive poker, Vincent Chauve rose to the throne defeating Jeonggyu Cho at heads up to capture the WPT Vietnam Main Event title! He earned the VND 2,300,000,000, the trophy, and the lead in the WPT Asia Pacific Player of the Year race. Congratulations to Vincent Chauve!

10:00PM: Jeonggyu Cho eliminated in 2nd place – VND 1,850,000,000
Level 33: Blinds 100K-200K ante 200K
Jeonggyu Cho did his best but in the end, he still could not take down the massive towers of Vincent Chauve. The closest he bridged the gap was 8M to 12M. However, Chauve went on a spree and began to create a big distance once again. The final hand of the tournament saw Cho raise to 500k, Chauve called. On the flop , Chauve led for 500k, Cho raised to 1.5M, Chauve three-bet to 2.5M, Cho shoved, Chauve called.

The turn gave Cho more outs adding a flush draw in his quest for a double up. However, the river felted which was of no help. Cho took second place and earned VND 1,850,000,000. This was considerably one of the most impressive runs today. Cho entered the final day at the bottom of the 14 player lineup. He had about 12bbs. He doubled up on the first hand and sailed on to reach the final table and heads up from there.

After several exchanges with hands only going as far as the turn, we finally got to see a couple of full boards. The first one saw a raise to 400 by Jeonggyu Cho, Vincent Chauve called. On the flop , both checked. On the turn , Chauve checked, Cho bet 700k, called by Chauve. The river it was back to checking. Cho win it with two pair over Chauve’s lower two pair.
Two hands after, Cho limped from the button, Chauve raised to 450k, Cho called. On the flop , both checked. On the turn , Chauve checked, Cho bet 600k, it was called. The river , both checked. Chauve had but Cho had better pair.
9:10PM: Vincent Chauve raises with 7-2 off and wins

Vincent Chauve raised to 325k, Jeonggyu Cho called. The flop , check by Cho, bet by Chauve of 200k, called. On the turn , same action with Cho check-calling a 450k bet. On the river, it was checked by both. Cho air, Chauve scooped up the pot with two pair.

After Vincent Chauve picked up a series of decent sized pots, Jeonggyu Cho answered with his own succession of pots. The first one saw Chauve raise to 325k, Cho called. On the flop , Cho check-raised Chauve’s 350k bet to make it 1.1M. Chauve folded.
Next win, Cho raised to 400k, Chauve called. The flop ran , Chauve checked, Cho bet 800k and won it with no challenge.
The biggest pot Cho won in this series began with him raising to 300k, Chauve called, the flop landed . Both players checked, and did the same on the turn. The river saw Chuave bet 400k, Cho raise to 900k, Chauve called. Cho won with higher kicker over Chauve’s .
8:45PM: Three good pots for Vincent Chauve

Vincent Chauve picked up three decent pots that were more than just picking up the blinds. On the first one, he raised to 325k, Jeonggyu Cho called. The flop saw a check from Cho, a 200k bet from Chauve, called by Cho. On the turn , Cho checked, Chauve sent out 450k, no call.
Next pot he was in button position again. He raised to 450k and Cho called. On the flop and turn, both players checked. On the river , Cho checked, Chauve slid out 200k, Cho called. Chauve showed two pair, Cho mucked.
The third good pot Chauve limped from the button, Cho raised to 450k, Chauve three-bet to 1.1M, Cho folded.

Jeonggyu Cho took the second pot of heads up. He raised to 475k, Chauve called. On a flop , Chauve checked, Cho shoved, no call by Chauve.

And they’re off! The final showdown to the title has begun! Vincent Chauve raised to 350k, Jeonggyu Cho called. On the flop , Cho check-called a 300k bet. On the turn, Cho checked, Chauve slid out 650k, this time Cho tapped out for Chauve to claim it. Chauve showed his bluff. Cho down to 5.9M.

Six Vietnamese players made it to the final day. Tuan Pro brought in the largest stack of that pack. He managed to amass an even larger arsenal throughout the day to stay in the upper ranks. After the fall of Thien Phu in 5th place, Tuan was the last player defending home soil. However it would not be his championship to lift having fallen to Vincent Chauve.
The hand saw Tuan open for 300k on the small blind, Chauve defended on the big blind. At the flop , Tuan bet 425k, Chauve called. On the turn , Tuan shoved, Chauve called putting Tuan at risk.

After doubling through fourth place finisher Jin Yong, Jeonggyu Cho has been on fire. He proceeded to win a couple of more pots, each against the leaders Vincent Chauve and Tuan Pro. The first one he defended his big blind from Tuan’s 250k raise. At the flop , Cho check-called a 275k bet. On the turn , checked by both to bring on the river . Cho slid out 250k, Tuan folded.
Against Chauve, Cho raised to 250k from the button, Chauve defended. At the flop , Chauve initiated the betting with 275k, Cho called. On the turn , Chauve bet 450k, Cho shoved, Chauve folded. Cho climbed to 6.8M.
7:45PM: Jin Yong settles for 4th place – VND 919,900,000

Jin Yong entered the final day at the helm of the last 14 runners and despite being in fine shape to take it to the limit, he had to settle for a 4th place finish instead. After losing nearly all of his chips to Jeonggyu Cho, Yong managed to triple up however he needed much much more to get back in the game. He moved all in with , Cho called with , the board ran for two pair to Cho. Yong earned VND 919,900,000 for his impressive run.
7:40PM: Jin Yong triples up!

Having plummeted to 175k, Jin Yong was all in from utg and got two callers in the blinds. The board ran out with no side pot generated. Yong showed straight, Tuan Pro , and Vincent Chauve . Yong tripled up but still way way below par.
7:35PM: Jeonggyu Cho doubles up to 3.3M, Jin Yong plummets

Sb Jin Yong shoved his 1,775,000 stack, Jeonggyu Cho joined with 1.6M. Yong , Cho , the board ran for a double up to Cho to 3.3M. Yong down to 175k.
7:30PM: Tuan wins two pots

After writing about Vincent Chauve just crushing the table, it’s high time we write about someone else. Tuan Pro has picked up two pots to be newsworthy. In a battle of the blinds, Tuan raised to 375k preflop and Chauve called. On the flop , it was checked by both. On the turn, Tuan fired 325k which was enough to win it with Chauve folding. Tuan up to 5.3M.
Next hand, Tuan was on the button. He raised to 325k, Chauve called from the small blind. At the flop , turn , and river Chauve check-called a 350k bet, a 550k bet, and a 500k bet. Tuan revealed his top pair, Chauve mucked.

Next hand, button Tuan limped, sb Chauve limiped, JIn Yong checked. At the flop , Chauve led for 250k, Yong folded, Tuan called. On the turn , check-check. On the river , Chauve checked, Tuan bet 250k, Chauve called. Tuan mucked. Chauve won the pot and showed his hole cards.

Thien Phu staged a good run but after falling in the red, he couldn’t find a way to get back in the black. His final hand saw Vincent Chauve raise to 275k from the button, Thien defended on the big blind. At the flop , Thien check-called a 225k bet. On the turn, it was checked by both. Then on the river , Thien led for 400k, Chauve shoved. Thien tanked. He eventually tossed in the call putting his tournament life at risk. Chauve showed flush and shipped it. Thien held top pair. Thien earned VND 703,140,000 for his deep run. With his departure, only Tuan Pro remains holding up the flag for the host country.

Vincent Chauve has been winning a majority of the pots here at the final 5 and is into the 8M marker. Besides picking up numerous blinds and antes, two hands that padded him up more was against Tuan Pro and Jeonggyu Cho.

With blinds going around fast, whoever wins the blinds and antes immediately picks up 250K. However, if a player loses his blinds, then that’s how much it will cost. For Thien Phu, the shortest stack on the table, he picked up a couple of b&a to bump him up to 2.1M. He won from the small blind after raising to 375k and Jeonggyu Cho folded. Next hand, he shoved on the button for 1.875M, and had no callers.

Seems to be most of the action is a battle of the blinds. In this hand it was sb Tuan Pro limping in, bb Vincent Chauve raised to 325k, called by Tuan. On the flop , Tuan checked, Chauve bet 500k, Tuan folded.
Two hands after, Chauve was on the button. He raised to 250k, sb Jin Yong three-bet to 575k, Chauve called. The flop brought more to the pot with Yong firing 575 again and Chauve matching it up. Jeonggyu Cho has a knack of getting in a pot with the big stacks. He engaged in a couple of heated pots that saw hjim jam on both to win it. On the river , Chauve checked, Cho shoved, no call from Chauve.

3:15PM: Jin Yong picks up opening pot

Alok Birewar could not gain any momentum at the table and finally took a stand holding . However, he couldn’t get past Tuan Pro’s with the board running . Birewar earned VND 230,350,000 for his 12th place finish.

Button Norbert Koh shoved with , sb Jeonggyu Cho shoved with , the board ran for a higher pair to Koh, but with the turn Cho retook the lead with a set. The river sealed the win and double up for Cho. He now has 1.5M, Koh down to 1.3M.

Norbert Koh is in action at the felt. He gt involved in four pots that saw his stack spike up and down to settle at 1.3M. The first hand he doubled up through Long Lam. Lam raised to 110k, called by Pham Quoc Anh, Koh shoved his 595k stack, Lam called, Pham folded. Koh held , Long , the board bricked.
The second hand sent Koh’s stack down. He raised to 125k from button position and bb Pham defended. At the flop , Pham checked, Koh bet 200k, Pham all in for 490k, Koh called. Pham , Koh , the turn was quads for Pham for a very happy double up to 1.2M.

Vincent Chauve has just claimed his second victim and it was Raiden Kan. Chauve raised to 110k, Kan three-bet to 310k from the big blind, Chauve shoved, and Kan called for his tournament life. 1:30PM: Thien Phu doubles up through Tuan

Action folded to the blinds, Tuan Pro raised to 120k, bb Thien Phu called. On the flop , Tuan c-bet 175k, called by Thien. On the turn , Tuan jammed his massive stack that well covered Thien. Thien gave it some thought then called. Tuan draw, Thien top pair, the river was safe for Thien for a double up to 2.1M. Tuan down to 2.5M.
A bit of controversy during the hand. When Tuan shoved, a spectator was heard saying “call call!” Not sure if that affected Thien’s decision but it visibly upset Tuan.

Vincent Chauve raised to 85k, Jin Yong three-bet to 230k Chauve called. On the flop , both players checked. On the turn, Chauve checked again, Yong bet 300k, Chauve called. On the river , Chauve again with the check, Yong fired 550k, Chauve tank-called. Yong showed full house. Chauve mucked. Yong rises to 4.1M, Chauve drops to 2.9M.

The Main Event drew a monster 686 entries to easily smash the advertised guarantee. Players are now looking at a much more lucrative prize pool of VND 15,105,034,000 (~US$651,454). The eventual winner won’t emerge until tomorrow but what he/she will pocket is an enormous VND 2,777,360,000 (~US$119,734).
Sometime today, the money will flow with 86 places paid. Players will begin at Level 15 with blinds at 1500-3000 ante 3000. The first three levels run 40 minutes each then it’s 60 minutes from then on. It is going to be a long day as the organizers attempt to play to the Final 9 or 11 hours of play, whichever comes first.
