Profile

In nearly a decade of professional play, Terry Tianyuan Tang from Nanning China, has proven you can have great success just playing on the Eastern side of the hemisphere. The Chinese poker professional took an interest in the felt from watching tournaments in Macau and international events broadcast on television. Tang turned pro in 2015 and since cashing at the 2016 Changsa Millions, Terry Tang has crossed no more than two time zones to show his expert poker skills.

Terry Tianyuan Tang – Poker Achievements

In 2017, Terry Tianyuan Tang competed in nearly all PokerStars events in Macau. In fact, Tang never stepped out of Macau to compete from November 2016 until March 2018. This did not mean his experience lacked international exposure, it just meant a more convenient way of regular competition with the world’s best.

Aside from the PokerStars series, Tang mixed it up and honed his poker skills at Macau events like the Poker King Cup, Asia Championship of Poker, Asian Poker Tour Macau Championships and Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau. Early success came in April 2017 at the PokerStars Championship Macau where he finished runner up in the Main Event earning a career best live cash of $ 331,644 (a personal best that still holds today). It was also at this event where according to poker-king.com, Tang would share the record of longest heads-up play in a live poker tournament. Terry Tang battled Canada’s Elliot Smith for a record 10 hours and 50 minutes to wind up second. The record still holds as of this writing.

Tang would follow this up with another career milestone by clinching his maiden title at the Asia Championship of Poker – Platinum Series XIX Macau Megastack Event, cashing $ 16,104. He would make a deep run a few months later in the October edition of the ACOP Macau this time at the Main Event, adding $ 60,422 to his career earnings. Tang’s consistent play in Macau would prepare him for a foray outside his comfort zone of Macau.

In August 2018, Terry Tang claimed runner-up place at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Manila MegastackBB Ante Event for his best cash that year amounting to $ 10,404. More career highlights came post-pandemic with deep runs at the China Poker Games series. Tang’s best finish was at the 2021 CPG Sanya Championship, Sanya Bay, placing 5th and banking $ 39,108. The Chinese player’s hot hands would then find a new home for success in Cambodia.

Terry Tang claimed his second title in 2023, clinching the Single Day High Roller Event of the 2023 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Cambodia for a $ 50,900 payoff. His fourth championship would come at the start of 2024, bagging the Mini-High Roller Event of the World Poker Tour Cambodia Championship with a prize money of $ 77,023. Momentum would continue with a second-place finish at the SuperStar Challenge Event of the Asian Poker Tour Jeju, earning Tang a second career best cash of $ 187,581.

Terry Tang’s tour strategy of staying within Asia seems to have paid off, reaching a career milestone of more than $1 million in total live earnings placing him 35th in the China All-Time Money List.
