USOP Hai Phong Day 7 Highlights: Ryan Hong leads Mini Main Event Day 2; Plant tops HR: Megastack; Four more trophies lifted
The USOP Hai Phong games at Dream Dragon Resort, Hai Phong, Vietnam is halfway through its thirteen day lineup with 35 out of 66 trophies already lifted. Day 7 welcomed another full house at the ballroom with the two Mini Main Event qualifiers front and center. Initially guaranteed VN₫ 3,000,000,000 (~US$ 122,220), the day’s numbers went above and beyond the expected, with a record-breaking turnout of 1,120 total entries recorded for a VN₫ 10,518,600,000 (~US$ 427,410) prize pool over three times in value.
Running alongside the Mini Main Event highlight was Day 1 of the High Roller: Megastack, as well as four side events playing down to completion. Early in the day saw local superstar Dao Minh Phu wrap up the High Roller 6 Max final games, of which followed three more winners – Hongjie Wang, Yap Joe Sam, and Lau Po Fai.

Ryan Hong leads Mini Main Event Day 2 charge
With the Mini Main Event qualifying rounds dusted, a total of 139 survivors are set to return to the felt for Day 2 at 12 noon, September 18th, each guaranteed a minimum cash of VN₫ 18 Million (~US$ 730). All eyes however, remain focused on the VN₫ 1.76 Billion (~US$ 71K) top prize, with an eventual champion crowned by night’s end.
Following twenty levels of play, the second flight of the Mini Main Event saw 60 players out of the 483 entry (317 unique) field find a bag, with Ryan Hong leading the pack. Hong stormed to the lead by the last two levels after busting Phi Tien Sang in a blind vs blind battle. Hong went on to carry this upward momentum all the way through, with a bubble bust earning him a final boost to 1,218,000 (102 BB) in chips. Le Manh Cuong suffered as the flight’s stone cold bubble, having lost a race to Hong for his last six big blinds.
Ukraine’s Erik Rozhynski trails closely behind with 991,000 (83 BB), followed by Nguyen Hoang Long with 590,000 (49 BB). Other notables joining the qualifier list are Dinh Tien Thanh 385,000 (32 BB), Nguyen Ngoc Khanh 257,000 (21 BB), and USOP ambassador Kyle Bao Diep 180,000 (15 BB).
The third and final heat of the Mini Main Event drew in an additional 357 entries to the tally with 45 more survivors due to return for Day 2. The evening games extended through 18 levels of play and capped its action with the the fall of Zheng Chenhao. Zheng found himself in rough shape after running K♠K♣ smack into Yang Peng’s A♦A♠ for his elimination.
Vo Huy Binh tops the charts and carries with him 729,000 (91 BB) in chips onto the next round, stacking fifth across the overall pecking order.

With a small field, only one player was deemed to win it all with none other than, Hongjie Wang claiming the entire loot. Wang clinched the victory in just under four hours of play, earning him his maiden USOP hardware.

It took fourteen levels of play before Yap Joe Sam closed out the win, taking with him VN₫ 57,000,000 (~US$ 2,310) in winnings, and a second series trophy for Malaysia.

Lau Po Fai wins Pot Limit Omaha
The fourth Pot Limit Omaha event on schedule drew in the series’ largest PLO field yet with 37 entries (34 unique) jumping in on the action. With only four players cutting a paycheck, a deal was made with each listed payout relinquishing VN₫ 7,000,000 (~US$ 280) in cash for the fifth place finisher. Lau Po Fai emerged victorious across the final games, having defeated runner up finisher Vincent Chauve for the title and VN₫ 90,300,000 (~US$ 3,660) top prize.

Ryan Plant leads High Roller: Megastack Final Day
The two-day High Roller: Megastack highlight attracted 83 entries (52 unique) across thirteen levels of registration and only 12 contenders geared to make it through to the final round. It took roughly fifteen hours on the floor before the action drew to a close following Le Nhu An’s crushing exit by the hands of Chen Peng.
By bagging time, UK’s Ryan Plant stacks atop with 3.2 Million (64 BB) in chips, standing in the best position to secure the VN₫ 1.6 Billion (~US$ 65K) top payout. Plant has already booked a stellar run at this season’s games, having won the first USOP elite trophy at the Superstar Challenge.
