USOP Hai Phong – Day 3 Highlights

Hoang Hai Nam Wins The High Roller Charity

Hoang Hai Nam at USOP Hai Phong
 Hoang Hai Nam

High roller crusher Hoang Hai Nam has done it! After eliminating Xiaosheng Zheng in 3rd place, Hoang took the lead away from Tran Viet Anh Hiep and never looked back. Starting heads up just 6 bb apart, Hoang proceeded to grind down Tran to 20 bb while in turn rising to 75 bb.

The frustrated Tran eventually took a stand calling all in with J9 against Hoang’s 22. Tran missed the board for the ducks to hold and award Hoang another USOP high roller title to add to his collection.

To date, Hoang now has three USOP High Roller titles to his name – Superstar Challenge, Super High Roller, and High Roller Charity.

The High Roller Charity Event was in benefit of the Red Cross and Relief Efforts due to the recent typhoon that swept through the coastal city of Hai Phong. A generous VN₫ 171,000,000 (~US$ 6,950) was collected.

Final Table Recap

USOP Hai Phong Madness Kick Off

167 players returned for the final stage of the Madness Kick Off Event. With each one already guaranteed a piece of the record breaking pot VN₫ 9,956,480,000 (~US$ 404,650), the goal was to win the title. Bringing in a commanding lead was Sweden’s Johnni Nielsen, who bagged up big at Day 1C.

Despite several players vying for the top spot, Nielsen stayed in the upper ranks all day and watched as eventual runner up Jing Sun took her turn up top, winning two pots before knocking out Pham Van Quan in 10th place.

After the fall of Dang Quyen Anh (9th), Nielsen was nearly out with A10 dominated by bigger stacked Pham Bao‘s AK until a ten showed up on the flop. Sun also had lady luck on her side, dropping to 3 bb at 8-handed, then doubling up three times off Pham Bao.

Khoi Nguyen at USOP Hai Phong
 Khoi Nguyen

Recapping the next busts, Nielsen dominated out Do Duc Hieu (8th) then  Khoi Nguyen eliminated Do Anh Tai (7th) and Joris Michl (6th). At five handed, Pham’s troubles continued, losing a portion of his stack to Khoi by calling up to fourth street on a board 9AJ28 with AQ  then folding on the river bet. It was a good fold with Khoi hodling A9 two pair.

Pham recovered some of the chips by eliminating short stacked Nguyen Than Minh (5th), then lost another showdown with KJ behind Nielsen’s KQ. Pham was finally sent packing in 4th place by Sun.

At three-handed, chip leader Khoi surged further ahead until Sun doubled up with J9 on a board 6QK10K, Khoi with KJ. Sun was all in on the turn.

Khoi continued to drop in chips, also doubling up the lucky Nielsen who fell to 10 bb and shoved with Q8. Though Khoi was ahead KJ, a queen turned up on the board. The downward trend continued for Khoi until he lost the rest to Nielsen. On his final hand, Khoi called the river shove with third pair, Nielsen had top pair.

Heads Up at Madness Kick Off Event - USOP Hai Phong

Heads up was fairly quick despite both players quite deep. Nielsen entered with the lead, Sun overtook, then Nielsen doubled up huge with K10 flush over K10 on a board 10J746. The final hand was Nielsen QJ straight dusting Sun’s AJ on a board 109864.

Championships Event – Day 1A

Just before the bubbble burst, Korea’s Jang Jongbea won a three-way shodown with a straight over a set and pocket aces to catapult him to the top of the counts. During the bubble round, Jang wen head to head against China’s Tianhao Zheng and earned two sizable pots one on a successful bluff and the other denying the bluff. This gave him the chip lead which held after the bubble burst on Nguyen Thi My Phuong.
