Record-Breaking Asian Poker Tour: Largest Main Event draws 1,434 entries for US$ 2M prize pool in Taipei, Taiwan

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has once again made history with APT Taipei Main Event drawing an astounding 1,434 entries to shatter its US$ 1 million guarantee. The resulting prize pool of US$ 2,039,630 makes it the richest and largest APT Main Event ever, surpassing its previous record set in APT Macau 2008 of US$ 1.5 Million. It is also the richest Main Event among all poker brands touring the Asian region.

Hailed by players as one of the best Main Event structures, four starting days were offered with registration open until the start of Day 2. Buy in was larger than usual having been bumped up significantly to NT$ 50,000, roughly US$ 1,650. That however didn’t curb the numbers as players poured in to pack the newly opened CTP Asia Poker Arena. For an opening flight, Day 1A instantly set a new APT Main Event record turnout of 437 entries. By Day 1B, the US$ 1 Million guarantee was obliterated.

This achievement sets the bar very high for other tours in the region. And as the longest running poker brand in Asia, pushing boundaries is nothing new to the APT. The brand’s continued dedication to provide players with an exceptional experience has set numerous records and pioneered new destinations. While many records have since been broken, this one will likely hold for some time. The second highest Main Event prize pool in Asia for a touring brand is APPT Manila of US$ 1,236,200 set in 2018. One APT record yet to be challenged is the World’s Longest Continuous Poker Tournament, the APT-RWM Iron Man Poker Challenge set in 2013.

As the Asian Poker Tour continues to make history, it cements its position as the premier poker tour in Asia. Later this year, players can look forward to another seven figure prize pool. In August, the APT returns to Incheon, South Korea featuring a KRW 1.3 Billion (~US$ 1 Million) guaranteed Main Event prize pool.
