Sparrow Cheung won yesterday the Pot Limit Omaha Hi Event . He is not only a talented poker player, he is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Poker Players Association (HKPPA).
In just four months time, the Hong Kong Poker Players Association (HKPPA) has grown from five committee members to quickly over 400 members, as told to us by HKPPA Chairman Sparrow Cheung. At the ongoing IPO event at Resorts World Manila, Cheung kindly spared some time to share a bit of info about HKPPA.
HKPPA Chairman Sparrow Cheung
SMP: What is HKPPA and how did it grow so fast in a short amount of time?
Cheung: Initially, I invited players to join HKPPA, then they spread the word, and soon the numbers grew with groups of players requesting to join. HKPPA provides players with good terms and bargains for events as well as recommendations and information sharing. We will also be offering poker courses soon.
SMP: When you say good terms and bargains, can you elaborate?
Cheung: For example this tournament, the IPO, I was invited to attend by IPO and so I reviewed the structure and felt it was a good event to recommend to the members. We also sponsored a player to the main event, Ah Tung. We’ve been watching him play, observing his game, and felt he was a good candidate to sponsor. At the upcoming WPT Jeju, we are encouraging our members to attend because it is also a good tournament and we have accommodations and main event discounts if they plan to participate.
SMP: Is the HKPPA comprised of mainly Hong Kong players?
Cheung: We have a lot of members from Hong Kong but any nationality is welcome. We have members from all over like mainland China, Taiwanese, Malaysia, Japan, and other nationalities because we do our best to provide benefits for the players. We also assist them as best we can.
Unfortunately Cheung had to speed off to catch the Pot Limit Omaha event, so for more information on HKPPA, head on to their facebook page.
