The Hong Kong Poker Players Association (HKPPA) was originally established by several professional poker players and later expanded to include more recreational members. It aims to promote poker as an “intellectual competitive sport” and for the card game to reach legal status in Hong Kong . To achieve this, the HKPPA hosts free sessions on a weekly basis in which experienced players share their knowledge, essentially running a live poker school for everyone interested in attending.

The HKPPA also runs a weekly competition on home soil called the “Hong Kong Poker Super League” with possible staking opportunities available to nearby major poker festivals. The association has also ventured outside of the country to produce its own live poker events on a larger scale. The HKPPA Premier League has taken place exclusively in cooperation with the CTP Poker Club in Taipei City since 2019 with half a dozen editions to date.
