Kawaguchi Takes Big Pot Near Day’s End

Level 23: 12,000 / 24,000 ante: 24,000

Jae Wook Shin opened for 60,000 and got calls from Akihiro Kawaguchi in the hijack and Yuji Yaginuma in the small blind. But Kazuhiro Shirazawa had other plans, putting in a three-bet to 200,000. Everyone folded except Kawaguchi, who called to see the flop.

The dealer revealed 4 2 5 , and Kawaguchi took the lead with a 100,000 bet, which Shirazawa called. Both players checked the K on the turn.

On the 9 river, Shirazawa checked, and Kawaguchi fired a final bet of 175,000. After a lengthy pause, Shirazawa folded, allowing Kawaguchi to scoop the pot and build his stack as the day drew to a close.

Kawaguchi Applies Pressure to Geronimo

Level 8: 500 / 1,000 ante: 1,000

Akihiro Kawaguchi raised to 2,500 from under the gun and Justin Geronimo defended from the big blind.

Both players read the flop of 6 5 T and checked through to see the 3 fall on the turn, where Geronimo bet 2,000 and Kawaguchi made the call.

A Q dropped on the river, and Geronimo sent another bet of 2,000, which Kawaguchi raised to 7,000. It took no time from Geronimo to toss his cards into the muck.
