After the 2003 online poker boom, viewers started to seek heroes and new players learning the game started seeking successful pros to emulate. Live poker always had a ready supply of characters to help fuel interest, but it wasn’t until at least 5 years later that online poker saw incendiary heroes who inspired adulation. Initially, Dwan‘s performances turned him into an online hero, but arguably, what Viktor Blom did online was more captivating and impressive. The fact that he demolished Dwan in the process only added to his legend.

The online world has retracted a little from where it once was, and things aren’t entirely the same anymore. One thing is for sure though – when people talk about the first online poker boom and the great players who were a part of it, they speak one name before any other. Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.
