Poker King Club launches Suncity Cup at WPT Korea

Whether it is opening up new poker rooms or staging the biggest poker events, the Poker King Club is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious poker brands in the Asian region. Within the past two years, the PKC – owned by the Macau VIP junket investor Suncity Group –, launched various projects that included the development of poker rooms in Solaire Casino in Manila, at Donaco Star Vegas in Cambodia, and at the Casino Lisboa Macau. In January 2016, the brand launched the Triton Super High Roller Series which has quickly been revered as one of the most prestigious events in the world.

Earlier this week, the PKC set sail to its newest project, the Suncity Cup. The series offers a very lucrative HKD 8 million guaranteed Main Event, which is roughly equivalent to US$1 million. The first leg of the series was recently held at the WPT Korea in the Grand Jeju Paradise Casino.

Suncity Cup Main Event details

The Suncity Cup is a ten-day poker event taking place from November 23rd – December 2nd at the Venetian Macau. Prior to starting day, the series hosts four “preliminary” Day 1 legs to enter the Main Event, each one held at a pre-chosen destination.

The recently concluded first leg was held in Jeju, Korea on September 24th – 25th. The second Day 1 leg is set to take place from October 12th – 15th at Solaire Resort & Casino in Manila, Philippines; the third Day 1 leg is set for Busan, Korea from November 13th – 18th (venue TBA); and the final Day 1 leg is at the Venetian Macao from November 23rd – 28th.

Due to varying currencies, buy-ins will likely fluctuate per location. The entry fee for the Korea leg was KRW 990,000 while the upcoming Philippines leg is at Php45,000. As added incentive, players that “qualify” into Day 2 will receive a generous HKD 6,000 refund, which is essentially the buy-in less the fee. Satellites will also be offered at all of Day 1 stops including TBD locations in Japan and Vietnam.

In a quote by PKC President, Winfred Yu, in GGRAsia, “As part of the series, we look forward to attracting existing players and also growing the game in new markets through a series held at several unique locations throughout Asia”.

“With a guaranteed prize of HKD8 million, we look forward to attracting a wide variety of players throughout the series, with several Day 1 options for players who want to get into the finals.”

After the completion of all the Day 1s, all qualifiers will merge for Day 2, Day 2B, Day 3, and the Final Day.  These rounds will take place from November 29th – December 2nd at the Venetian Macau. One important note to smile about, players unable to qualify into Day 2 will still have a chance at the prize pool as players will be allowed to buy-in directly into Day 2/2B at a cost of HKD 38,000.

In addition to the HKD 8M Main Event, the ten-day Suncity Cup will offer side events ranging from HKD 8,000 – HKD 20,000 buy-in, and two High Rollers events, one at HKD 45,0000 and the much stiffer HKD 80,000.
