More events in Vietnam; No cool down for the local poker scene

Live poker tournaments are booming in Vietnam and seems to only be getting much busier. With the recent authorization given to local poker clubs allowing them to host tournaments, 2018 has already seen two highly successful events storm through the country with a large percentage of locals in attendance.

Early this month, the Asia Poker League turned up a monstrous field of 864 entries. This turnout surpassed the 664 entries of the Asian Poker Tour back in January making it the largest field recorded in the country. For the next few months, more events are lined up including new players looking to enter the market.

Upcoming is the third installment of the highly popular Viet Nam Poker Tour. The event takes place at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City on June 21 -24, 2018. There are multiple games to enter throughout the four days but the event everyone will be eyeing is the VND 3,000,000,000 Main Event. This guarantee is half a billion higher than their previous edition.  For players based in Hanoi, Win Poker will offer starting flights on June 15-17.

Buy-in is VND 11,000,000 (~US$482). The eventual winner is guaranteed to earn VND 750,000,000 (~US$32,850).

APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Championships 2018

APT Kick Off 2018 at Pro Poker Club

The Asian Poker Tour was the first international poker brand to bring poker to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and coming next month, they return for their second festival at the Pro Poker Club. The APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Championships will run for 12 days, from July 11 – 22. The festival offers two major events – Main Event and Championships Event – plus 11 side events. The Main Event comes in with a VND 22,000,000 buy-in while the Championships Event has a VND 33,000,000 buy-in.

APT Vietnam Da Nang Championships 2018

A few months after, the Asian Poker Tour heads to Da Nang, Vietnam for the APT Vietnam Da Nang Championships. This will be the APT’s first venture to Da Nang, a fast-growing coastal city located on the East Sea at the mouth of the Han River. The event takes place from October 3 – 14, 2018 at the Cocobay Resort.

Possible new players in the market

With poker highly accepted in Vietnam and locals coming out in full force, there will likely be more growth with new players entering the arena. In a recent interview, Stanley Choi mentioned Vietnam as one of the destinations being considered by PokerStars LIVE.

Another possible player is the World Poker Tour. The brand recently reaffirmed their ambitions to develop in Asia and Vietnam may be considered to host an event.
