Metro Card Club hosts Asian Poker Championship Php 5 Million guaranteed this weekend

If you are in the Philippines this weekend, then there’s no better place to be than at the Metro Card Club. Starting Friday, January 31 to Monday, February 3, the Metro hosts its newest event named the Asian Poker Championship (APC). This is the card room’s first major series of 2020 and it intends to be a big one with 8 events lined up featuring a Php 5,000,000 (~US$ 98,000) guaranteed Main Event.

Metro KMGM

For those new to the Metro, it is the largest brick-and-mortar card room in the country and it is unquestionably the most popular. Since the start of the year, Metro Team Pros have been busy hype-ing up the APC all over social media which means players can expect the country’s biggest names in attendance such as PSPC 3rd placer Marc Rivera, first Filipino WSOP bracelet winner Mike Takayama, Lester Edoc, and John Tech. Additionally, the Metro has partnered up with Korean Mind Games Members (KMGM). The group emerged in the live Asian circuit last year and usually brings in a large crowd.

APC Main Event

Getting a look at the APC’s highlight tournament, the Php 5 Million guaranteed Main Event comes with a buy-in of Php 22,000 (~US$ 430). Multiple re-entries are allowed with the best stack forward rule in effect. One thing to keep in mind, the format differs from most of today’s tournaments in that it starts off with the Big Blind Ante (ante comes from the big blind), and once it is down to the final table (10-handed), it changes to Regular Ante. Players start with 15,000 stack which is 300 times the opening big blind. To enter:

Day 1A: Friday, January 31 at 1pm
Day 1B: Saturday, February 1 at 1pm
Day 1C (Turbo): Saturday, February 1 at 5pm

30 minute levels for Day 1A and Day 1B
20 minute levels for Day 1C turbo flight
Registration closes at the start of Level 10
All starting days play until the end of Level 14

Moving on to Day 2, qualifying players start at 12pm. They play out 12 levels or to the final two tables, whichever is first reached. The final two tables will see levels increase every 40 minutes. Once the final table is reached, levels increase every 60 minutes and the format switches to Regular Ante. Final day play begins at 11am.

Other events

Aside from the main attraction are 7 side events to enjoy. On the premium end are two High Roller events with buy-in of Php 33,000 (~US$ 650) each. The first one is on Saturday, February 1 at 8pm, the second one is on Monday, February 3 at 3pm. Two satellites to these events are offered at Php 6,600 buy-in.

On the mid-range is the Monster Stack event on Sunday, February 2. Buy-in is Php 8,800 (~US$ 175). To fill the rest of the schedule are four very affordable events. The Php 4,400 (~US$ 85) buy-in KO Bounty and the Php 3,300 (~US$ 65) buy-in Daily No Limit Turbo run on opening day. The KMGM Daily No Limit Turbo runs on Sunday and the Big Pot Hyper Turbo is closing day. Both cost Php 3,300 to enter.

The Metro Card Club is located at the Metrowalk Commercial Complex in Pasig City, Philippines. The room houses 30 tables. Cash games run daily.
