Asian Poker League announces event in the Philippines and expansion to India

On the summer of 2016, the Asia Poker League (APL) emerged into Asia’s live poker arena hosting their inaugural event at partnership venue, the Beijing Poker Club. As a newcomer to the scene, they impressively drew in 465 entries for the Main Event. Eight months later, on April 2017, they held their second poker festival, also at the BPC, and nearly doubled their numbers with 911 entries strong.

For 2018, new destinations are on the immediate horizon for the young brand with two key announcements recently made:

  • APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines 5M Guaranteed
  • APL India: Partnership inked with Vikram Verma – expansion to India

With their first two events held in Mainland China, APL ventures to the Philippines for their next event. This is a great choice for a brand that aims to bring back the fun in poker. The Philippines is known to be a very hospitable country filled with a variety of entertainment, enjoyment, and exciting places to explore. Poker is embraced and has been around for over ten years.

For the upcoming APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines, the event boasts of a Php5,000,000 guaranteed Main Event which is approximately US$99,000. Buy-in is Php27,500 with three starting days offered. The six-day event takes place from February 24 – March 1 at the Royce Hotel & Casino in Angeles City, Pampanga. In addition to the main, there are 10 other events to enjoy throughout the week including an NLH High Roller for Php50,000.

Moving forward in the year, APL will be expanding to India with the announcement of a partnership with Vikram Verma. Verma is the co-founder of India Poker Pros and of the application Poker Buddies.

Although there are no details yet of what to expect for APL India, Vikram confirmed, “we are planning to announce a series soon in India. We are working towards it and will make a formal announcement when the time is right.“

Talks of alliance between Verma and APL sprouted back in 2017 during the APL Beijing event that Verma attended. With like minds fueled by their passion and drive to bring poker to a new level, the partnership was eventually sealed.

“APL India is aiming to give a new flavor to the whole tournament scene in Asia. We are working on different ideas to give maximum benefit to our players.” said Vikram.

APL owner, Judic Kim also commented, “we are overjoyed with the addition of APL India, a country where poker is booming. Also to be working with Vikram Verma with Poker Buddies/India Poker Pros will be an honor while our friendship continues to grow.”

With Mainland China under APL’s wing and now the big booming giant India joining the team, it seems APL is slowly becoming a major player in the Asian live poker arena.
