APT Vietnam 2018 with VND 6BN Main Event guarantee; Short Deck Poker and Shot Clock introduced

The Asian Poker Tour returns to Ho Chi Minh City for the third time this year with APT Vietnam 2018 taking place from October 5 to 11 at Pro Poker Club. The APT was the first international brand to bring a full-blown poker festival to the city drawing in a huge crowd that produced massive prize pools.

The tour heads back once again and with them an irresistible roster of games running throughout the week. A couple of exciting new things to look forward to are: the introduction of the Shot Clock and the Short Deck Poker Triple Stack event. The bulk of the action will be on the MAIN EVENT with its VND 6 Billion Guaranteed prize pool.

MAIN EVENT – VND 6 BILLION GUARANTEED

Getting a look at the Main Event, this is the tour’s prime tournament and it comes with a VND 6 Billion Guarantee. You can expect this number to grow with tour’s previous visits easily crushing the guarantees.

The Main Event is scheduled for a six day run from October 6 to 11 with three starting days setting things off – Day 1A, Day 1B, and Day 1C. This should give players plenty of opportunity to join the action with unlimited re-entries allowed. The next half are freezeout rounds: Day 2, Day 3, and the Final 8. Buy-in is VND 22,000,000 (~US$950).

To adjust to the large attendance this event usually attracts, the APT has made minor adjustments to the format. Each starting day will play out 9 rounds. Registration closes at the starting shuffle of Day 2.

For Main Event players, CoinPoker will continue to offer their promotions. The Main Event Rake Back promo and the Last Man Standing promo. The LMS awards a Main Event seat to the APT Finale Philippines to the last player remaining sporting the CoinPoker patch.

In addition to the main attraction, the festival serves up a roster of 12 events with a variety of games suited for all types of players. The newest addition is the Short Deck Poker Triple Stack event.

For those new to Short Deck Poker Triple Stack, it is a variation of Texas Hold’em played by the high stakes cash game players in Asia. There are only 36 cards in the deck. All the 2s,3s,4s, and 5s are removed making it easier to complete a five-card spread. Things to know:

  • Because a flush is now much hard to come by, it switches rank with the full house
  • The game is played with antes and a single blind on the button
  • Players start with three stacks which can be put into play either all at once or one by one anytime before the close of registration. Players cannot put idle stacks into play while involved in a hand.
  • All tables are 7-handed with the final table 8-handed
  • The Shot Clock will be introduced at the final table

*Due to the format requiring substantial adjustments, please see the APT website for the full details.

The Shot Clock will also be applied to the CoinPoker High Rollers Single Day event but unlike the Short Deck Poker event, it will be utilized from the start. The APT first introduced the Shot Clock at their recently concluded festival in Manila. For those new to the Shot Clock, it speeds up the game by giving players a limited amount of time to act. Buy-in is VND 43,000,000.

High Rollers and other events

In addition to the CoinPoker High Rollers Single Day, there are two more high stakes games in the lineup: CoinPoker High Rollers with a buy-in of VND 54,000,000 and the CoinPoker Super High Rollers (special event) at VND 107,500,000.

Other events are the Monster Stack, No Limit Hold’em one and two day, and Turbo events. All events will be utilizing the Ante Big Blind system.
