17:30: Ta Xuan Tung rails one
Level 6: Blinds 200-400 ante 400

Vying for the second largest stack at the moment is Ta Xuan Tung with around 82k. One of the pots he shipped was the elimination of a player. It began with a raise by Frederic Boillet to 1100, called by Tung, three-bet all in to 1900 by a short stacked player, called by both Boillet and Tung. At the flop 9s4c7s, no bets. On the turn Qs, Tung fired a bet to start off a side pot but Boillet folded. Tung QhJc top pair, all in player Ac2h, the river 8h completed the board for Tung to ship it and a player to bounce out.

17:10: Soo Jo Kim in the house
Level 5: Blinds 150-300 ante 300

Soo Jo Kim

Korean pro Soo Jo Kim has joined the action. He was seen earlier battling it out at one of the side events. Kim placed 2nd at the previous APL Vietnam Main Event championed by Quang Nang Nguyen.

17:00: Do Quang Thang with a big stack
Level 5: Blinds 150-300 ante 300

Do Quang Thang

Do Quang Thang currently holds the largest stack out there. Helping build it was the elimination of Stephen Schumacher whose KdKs couldn’t improve on a board 6d10d2c6sAs to overtake Thang’s 2d2h full house. The all ins were at the flop. Thang sits with over 130k.

16:15: Last man standing promo – HKPPA vs SPL
Level 4: Blinds 100-200 ante 200

We have just been informed by Jack Liew that there is an HKPPA and SPL side competition in the Main Event. The last man standing from either club will win one free seat to the next APL Main Event. We will surely be keeping tabs on that contest.

16:00: Main Event well underway
Level 4: Blinds 100-200 ante 200

Main Event underway

We are halfway through Level 4 of the Main Event. Six tables are running with 51 entries so far. Some of the notables in action are La Anh Tuan, Nguyen Nam Duong, Tran Van Quan, Nguyen The Anh, Frederic Boillet, Stephen Schumacher, and Jeonggyu Cho. For the latter Cho, he was in and out fairly quick. Registration stays open until the start of Level 10, just after the dinner break so plenty of time for late-comers to join and early busts to get back in the game.

Welcome to the Main Event! Today is the start of four starting heats to join the headliner. This event comes with a VND 8,000,000,000 (~US$ 345,000) guarantee. Buy-in is VND 16,500,000 (~US$720) with unlimited re-entries. Registration closes at the start of Level 10 which is at approximately 8pm. Each starting day plays a total of 14 rounds with blinds escalating every 40 minutes.

We will bring you some of the action via our live updates plus recaps at the end of the day. Good luck to all!
