While the average wage in Cambodia is merely $60-$100 per month, Phnom Penh workers see and require an average of $270 as the capital has way higher living costs than the countryside.

Nagaworld workers demand more than their average of $150-$250 per month

Around a third of all Nagaworld workers now went on strike on 9th January to demand higher pay and better working conditions. Their main demand is to increase wages to $300 for hotel staff and $500 for casino staff.

Other requests are to reinstate their union president, Chhim Sithar, and more support against abusive behaviour of gamblers.

In addition to that employees see that they deserve a fairer cut of these enormous amounts of money flowing through the casino.

$1.8 billion in revenue in 2019 for NagaCorp

NagaCorp reported an estimated $1.8 billion in revenue last year, an increase of $300 million from 2018.

The casino holds a 200-km radius monopoly and has posted a 9-month net gaming revenue of $616.3 million last year.

So far there has been no statement from the operator to the public. According to Reuters, an internal message has allegedly been issued, however, warning staff that they might lose their jobs if they joined the strike.
