2019 WSOP Preview: 13 new events announced

Every year, poker fans across the world start to get excited around the end of June. Checking online to find updates and live streams or booking flights to head out to Las Vegas, everyone who plays poker knows what the World Series is and how closely it is tied to the history of the game. Whether you are watching or playing it this summer, we now have a more comprehensive list of events for you to plan around.

$1,000 Mini Main Event and  $400 Buy-in Colossus

One of the key changes to this year’s schedule is centred around affordability. For those who are unable to find the $10,000 buy-in for the Main Event and fall short at the satellites, they can take comfort in a miniature version of the tournament, which starts two days beforehand. The buy-in is just $1,000 and players will begin with the same 60,000 stack. Blind levels will rise way quicker however, at 30-minute intervals.

In addition, the ‘Colossus’ event which commanded a $565 buy-in last year has now had its entry fee cut to just $400. This tournament is set to begin on June 26th. There will also be $1,500 and $1,000 Super-Turbo Bounty one-day events taking place on June 4th and 24th.

Other events confirmed

Several new events have been added for what will be the 50th instalment of the WSOP this summer, but many of the old favourites have returned too. The Ladies, and Seniors events have been confirmed with their usual $1,000 buy-ins, with a $1,000 Super-Seniors event on the schedule now too. The series will, as ever, kick off with the casino employees event and the $1,111 Little One for One Drop will make a return later in the series. The $1,500 Millionaire Maker is back on the list too, with ‘Double Stack’ and ‘Marathon’ events also having been added. These come with a $1,000 and $2,620 price tag respectively. The ever-popular $1,000 Tag Team  will also be part of the Series.

These 13 additional events (in red) complete the first part of the schedule announced last december. The $10,000 Main Event will begin on july 3rd and the full event-by-event schedule is expected to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2019.
